Education

Dr. Amir Georges Sabongui was raised in Montreal, Quebec. He graduated from Concordia University with a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology and a PhD in Psychology.

Post-Graduate Professional Training

He completed his post-graduate training in Montreal with two years psycho-dynamic training and a two-year specialization in child psychology at the Royal Victoria Hospital. He then went on to complete advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in a two-year residency program at the Douglas Mental Health Institute.


Research

Dr. Amir Georges Sabongui conducted research in neurobiology of addiction and stress during two years, then went on to do more stress-related research with Canadian Navy and Canadian Armed Forces. This research was awarded the Outstanding Dissertation Award by the Canadian Psychological Association.

Dr. Amir Georges Sabongui specializes in Stress and Burnout Prevention and Leadership Training. With over twelve years experience, he has treated thousands of patients and has spoken to over 100,000 individuals at seminars.

He is best known for developing long-term partnerships with organizational clients to provide corporate leadership development, directing crisis and conflict interventions, and developing and facilitating training workshops on a variety of topics.


Dr. Amir Georges Sabongui is highly sought after as a dynamic and engaging speaker and has been prominently featured in the media such as ABC PrimeTime Live, CityTV, The Globe and Mail, CBC, The Montreal Gazette, and CJAD Radio ( www.drlaurie.com) among others.


He is a former senior Naval Officer and has commanded patrol boats during search and rescue operations and was director of operations for a crisis response team during multi-national NATO exercises. He still works closely with the Canadian military and has led an 8-year research programme initiated as part of his doctoral research to identify the factors that create high-performance work teams required to function under extreme conditions and protect soldiers from the psychological impact of armed conflict.


He is also the author of several books, including the upcoming Diamonds or Dust: What Makes People Shine or Crumble Under Pressure and directs both the Alpha Medical Clinic, an integrative mind-body executive health centre and Wellness Professionals Alliance.
